He recently sent out 35 letters to property owners notifying them that the condition of their buildings or grounds violated Clarksville’s zoning ordinance. In other business Jones said he continues to work with the town’s lawyers on a solution to address the problem of dilapidated houses and buildings around Clarksville. The alternative, though not ideal, is to bid the project in phases. Jones said he is working with the Southside Planning District Commission to secure additional grant funding to carry out the work.

Jones said all of those issues have been addressed and there appears to be no further hindrance to the project moving forward. For more than two years McCormack has worked through the permitting process, dealing with erosion concerns and a redesign of the sewer lines.
McCormack and the team at Waukeshaw Development Company returned to the drawing board and returned to the town with a new plan, one that calls for 40 one-bedroom, market-rate apartments and retail space on the ground level facing Virginia Avenue.
Before work could begin, the walls of the warehouse were blown down by Tropical Storm Michael in 2018. In 2015, McCormack approached the town with a plan to redevelop the old tobacco warehouse on Virginia Avenue into a mixed use facility with living and retail spaces. Jones said Dave McCormack, developer of the Planter’s Warehouse project on Virginia Avenue, had indicated to him that work would begin on the stalled project within the week, weather permitting.
